Abstract

|
Anaphylaxis is an acute, severe, systemic hypersensitivity reaction from the sudden release of mediators by mast cells
and basophils. Drugs are the most common triggers of anaphylaxis in adults. Moreover, drug-induced anaphylaxis is the
most common cause of fatal anaphylaxis, with antibiotics and radiocontrast accounting for most fatalities. Diagnosis of
the causative drug is difficult, and includes clinical history and in vitro and in vivo test based on mechanisms. Skin
tests are useful only for IgE-mediated anaphylaxis. Drug-induced anaphylaxis is a potentially life-threatening reaction and
the prevalence and incidence are increasing. Therefore, accurate diagnosis and identification of the culprit drug is crucial
to avoid recurrence of drug-induced anaphylaxis.
